Thompson Primary School years 1 and 2 pupils brave the elements on a bitter 27th January day

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is supporting a two year project providing primary school students with extra-curricular experiences. The aim of which is to develop educational and lifelong skills whilst raising awareness of our local history and specifically the village of Ovington, it’s Church and diverse history.

Well wrapped up part of their day’s experience was an Ecological treasure hunt of local wildlife in the graveyard to incorporate the science part of the curriculum. Great fun was had finding and identifying their findings

January Training Day

The Serious work begins. Ovington and surrounding residents received their Safeguarding training in preparation of the program beginning.

Leaders and helpers getting to grips with the art activities that the children will be taken part in.

Listening and in acting the story telling aspect to give them a understanding, and to be able to help the school children.

Here are some more pictures from our Traning day.

It’s real - Training Day Friday 20th January

Having been notified we had been granted Heritage Lottery Funds on 8th December 2016 earnest planning was put in action awaiting the release of funds in January 2017.

Purchasing equipment to enable the seven local schools who will be sending in separate groups of their years 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 has nearly been completed. More importantly before we receive the first school children leaders and helpers enjoyed a training day on January 20th.

Everybody listened carefully to their Safeguarding training, but then enjoyed going back to being students. Having a go at learning about all the activities including the environment, storytelling, enacting a baptism and educational fun that the children will be participating in when their school visits.

Many of the residents of Ovington can be seen engaged in the activities.
