The Glebe Surveyor visits
Ovington village hall was formally the village church school serving the local community which eventually closed many years ago. The building with some land was transferred to the village to be run as a free standing village hall community project, and in these preceding years has been a very successful contributor to village life.
Like most things in life over a period of time things like land boundaries can became slightly grey, which was highlighted at the Heritage lottery Fund first public meeting by the chairman of the village hall committee. This had been a recent on going area of concern.
The church Glebe Surveyor was requested to attend along with representatives of the committee to agree these boundaries and restore harmony.
Mr Riley armed with the original deeds of the land transfer along with the Glebe Surveyor were able to agree the definitive boundary lines, and the Glebe Surveyor to implement the changes.

The
process begins on the restoration of St John the Evangelist Ovington
Since being granted
the offer of funds by the Heritage Lottery the work of evaluating the
restoration projects that were in the original submission has to
begin in earnest. Having entered what the Heritage Lottery call the
development stage of the project the architect Ruth Blackman has to
revisit the church, look at the original repairs planned for and to
check there has been no further noticeable deterioration in other
areas.
After this
inspection which she carried out along with church warden Chris
Springford she has to prepare a detailed schedule of inspections by
several of the qualified trades. This allows them to give firm
quotations for specific areas of their expertise to be eventually
submitted to the Heritage Lottery.
This can be a very
complicated process for Ruth as she is dealing with a very old church
that comes under the Church Dioceses and Historic England controls.
